You may be wondering why you should consider Ayurveda for your wellness especially there are so many options available. Here are the 5 reasons (but not limited to).

1. Individualised approach to wellness

Ayurveda embraces the individual. It believes that each person is born with his or her own innate nature (constitution). Because of this, no individual has the same regimen as other individual. Ayurveda offers an individualised approach treating each individual according to their nature. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Ayurveda focuses on living the right way according to your own nature. It teaches us to cherish our innate nature to love and honor who we are.

2. Engaging in our own wellness with self-awareness

Ayurveda fosters self-awareness. This is so powerful. By developing self-awareness we can notice any imbalance and make our own decisions about what to do based on how we are feeling day to day and moment by moment before more serious issues develop.

Ayurveda empowers us to make positive changes in life. Ayurveda is not about taking herbal medicines and waiting for the results. Instead, it encourages us to be an active participant in our own journey toward wellness and healing.

This involves learning about our nature (constitutions), relationship with the 5 elements of nature and need for self healing. The very heart of Ayurveda is YOU. We are capable of achieving balance by making adjustments in life connecting within and with the world, and being authentically YOU.

3. Prevention and maintenance of true health

Ayurveda focuses on prevention and embraces the whole you. It addresses the underlying issues that accumulate and result in you feeling unwell. In doing so, Ayurveda addresses the root causes instead of the full list of symptoms. Ayurveda always takes into consideration the whole person. Every aspect of our life contributes to our health.

Ayurveda aims to maintain the health of healthy person, treat disease when suffering and stay balanced afterwards. Ayurveda acknowledges the connection between the mind, body, senses and soul. They work together to achieve true health. This is the experience of your entire being - mind, body, senses and soul functioning in harmony.

4. Based on nature

Ayurveda is intuitive. It is based on nature. Ayurveda is for everyone and it is very likely you are already practicing some of it. If you understand the basic patterns, the whole thing will become quite common sense to you. Ayurveda recognizes five elements (air, ether, fire, water and earth) in nature and in us. All the elements are at work in nature and inside us (yes we are a part of the nature). Ayurveda focuses on living harmony within us AND with the greater nature following with the nature’s rhythms, cycles of the sun, moon, and seasons, and understanding their fluctuations.

Ayurveda uses food, lifestyle, activities (rest, exercise, hobby, music, aroma etc.), yoga, meditation, herbs, daily and seasonal routine, anything as medicine and therapeutic guide to create the balance.

5. Balance within: we are inherently healthy

Health according to Ayurveda is balance and our natural state. Unhealthy state or disease is imbalance and moving away from our natural state. Ayurveda encourages us back to our natural state of balance. Imbalance does not happen overnight. Paying attention to signs that the balance is shifting. Ayurveda believes we are capable of achieving balance. All the tools are within us.

Sounds good? Most people think so, but then have no idea where to get started. They find that diet is the best place to begin. Getting to know our innate nature (constitution) and any imbalances is a very first step, then we are ready to start exploring Ayurvedic wisdom in a daily life.

Happy July!
